HELBAKO from 1977 until today
It all starts in a garage: In 1977, Hans-Walter Zimmermann and Heino Burmester develop their first control system for central locking systems under the name “HELBA Elektronik Baugruppen GmbH & Co. KG”. Three years later, 6 employees are employed, a few months later there are already 18. A first move in 1980 is followed two years later by another one:
An own development department is established. In the mid-1980s, the first SMD placement machine replaces numerous home workstations; at the same time, HELBA employs 62 people.
In 1990 HELBA becomes HELBAKO, followed by ISO 9000 certification and a new 6000 m² building in Weilenburgstraße. At the millennium, the development department is concentrated in its own center, HELBAKO employs 150 people, and the number keeps growing.
HELBAKO creates jobs, also physically: In an ambitious construction project, a four-story wing is added in record time in 2003; every week the number of employees increases.
Since 2016, our subsidiary HELBAKO Electronica in Romania has supplemented our capabilities as an additional manufacturing and development site.
In March 2026, the global automotive supplier WITTE Automotive, also a family business, acquired the HELBAKO Group. Since then, it has specifically strengthened the system expertise of the medium-sized locking system specialist with its comprehensive electronics expertise.
